Two things stick in my memory from the Alpine Treks I made in Switzerland in the 1980's. The first was the amount of vertical ascent and descent -- a two-week trip involved as much as the height of Mt. Everest! But the second strong impression was made by the lovely, manicured villages we stayed in at night. Every house took such pride in the whitewashed walls, perfectly swept streets, and the condition of it flowerboxes, most of them sporting perfectly-pruned geraniums. In this miniature painting, I wanted to depict the narrow streets and beautiful flowerboxes. I then added the woman pushing the stroller, dressed her in a dirndel and placed her in the optimum position for the composition of the painting.
The painting won an Honorable Mention at the Miniature Arts Bardean Show in 2012.
